[Arriving by Raven a day or so after the rest of the Inquisition forces arrive in the fallow Mire. The parchment kind of smells like mildew and has some mud on it.]
Sorry

[A picture of an elf with a frowny face follows, and then one of a stick figure on top of a house firing arrows at some skeletons, and a templar (Maria) fighting them at the bottom. Then a picture of the elf and maria, with a happy face and an angry face respectively, and then a picture of gavin digging a hole with a little scribble of a pile of smelly poo beside it.]
-Gavin [He's helpfully pressed his mud-covered thumb print beside his name, for some reason.]
[Now, normally, Bruce probably would just respond with a written message of his own of sorts - but given how 1) this is Gavin and 2) he's currently at the Fallow Mire, this is probably the much more practical option. Bruce isn't one to really make use of the crystals, but even he has to admit its usefulness in times like these.]
[Gavin hadn't actually used the sending crystal yet, so he
nearly jumps out of his skin when he hears Bruce's voice coming out of it.
Carefully, he picks it up, and holds it in his cupped hands. Ah- how does
he do this.]
... Bruce? Is that you? I'd really rather you'd call me Gavin, so that I
know for sure it's me you're talking to--
[A few days after the inquisition arrives in the fallow mire, delivered punctually by Baron von Plucky. Scribbled as though the author was very busy and somewhat distracted due to interruption, as the handwriting changes several times.]
B,
Mire is about as fun as I guessed it would be. Holding up okay, but everyone has problems that need solving. Managed to solve most of the disputes (some still ongoing) and all the tents are up, so that's progress.
Henry's definitely gone. Sent some out to look for him. Will keep you updated. Ask the advisors if you don't hear anything.
Villagers worse than we thought; could use another surgeon down here, but I wouldn't want to leave Skyhold without the best.
[The response comes around the second batch of letters that arrive from Skyhold after Harding had sent her letter off. The words themselves are neat and precise, even if the paper seems like it had seen some better days.]
Harding,
It's good to hear from you, and I'm glad you made it safely to the Mire. From the little I've heard here the undead situation seems to be rather bad. Make sure you have some fire arrows on hand if you can manage that; I heard they are especially effective.
Things are pretty quiet here since so many left to the Mire; some of the healers have been contacting me via message crystal to help them look up on some things since Skyhold is where the information comes by more easily. Once the refugees in here are more settled I'll probably come down to see how I can help further - not everything needs a magic touch, after all.
Speaking of the Mire, would you mind doing a favor for me while you're there? I presume you know about Gavin Ashara, since he's a scout in the Inquisition as well. He's gotten into a spot of trouble recently and I hope you can just keep an eye on him. He sounded pretty down when I conversed him through the message crystal, so I just want to make sure he isn't going to do anything he might regret. Sorry to trouble you about that. I'll make sure to repay the favor when you get back - or when I'm there, whichever's earlier.
Take care out in the Mire. I hope to see you soon myself.
He was only in skyhold for a couple of days - a routine supply run, and then back to the mire - but that meant, of course, that he had to go and see Bruce. It was tradition, at this point, and maybe the man would have something that he could nibble.
So it was late afternoon when he found his way to the healer's tents to look around for him.
Rather than being in his tent Bruce was on his way back to his tent when he heard Gavin's voice. Immediately he turned in the direction of where it came from and quickly spotted a familiar elf coming over towards him.
"If you did get injured while on latrine duty, I would be surprised," he says once Gavin is close enough to hear. Despite the tease Bruce was incredibly relived to see him, and that relief was probably reflected on his face and the words that he said next. "It's good to see you again."
[...well this is certainly a surprise. All things considered Merrick is the last person Bruce expects to hear from, but if he needs help then Bruce isn't going to stop him.]
Alright. [Brief shuffling sounds as Bruce goes to get his things together.] Where are you now?
[Bruce's first thought when he sees the card is to--well, mostly to disregard it. Not out of malice or anything but because the words have him confused. He had no idea Adelaide would be this concerned with his hair but then again, she was Orelsian. It seemed like most Orelsians had this thing about hair for one reason or another.
Either way though this was Adelaide, and Bruce wasn't going to disregard this despite his initial reaction to do so.
With card in hand Bruce goes over to the hotsprings (they had hotsprings??) at the requested time period, feeling just a tad uncertain as he glances around to see where exactly Adelaide is.]
( Well, Ruby just made a terrible decision. She sits with the crystal resting against her forehead for a few moments before she manages to pull herself together enough to speak.
When she does, though, she sounds bright and chipper. Almost fine. )
[Its rare when anybody contacts him through these crystals these days. Its not as if he's hard to find if needed, and... its not like he's a person people who seek the company of.
So its a bit of a surprise when he suddenly has a message. And from Lucas, no less.]
Ah--yes. [Brief pause.] Do you need me for something?
[Well that's not a question Bruce had been expecting to hear from anybody, least of all Raylan.]
...I believe the former might be the more practical choice from what I can recall. They've got some actual examples. The latter book tends to go for more... outlandish scenarios. [Read: extreme.]
Official request for private quarters beginning in Cloudreach.
Reason: Baby due in early Bloomingtide.
Currently residing in barracks. Roommates are kind but not looking forward to lives/sleep being interrupted by newborn. Also there is no space for a fifth person, however small.
Willing to take room in too much disrepair for it to be used by Inquisition guests. Just give me a canvas sheet if there are any holes in the ceiling.
[At first Bruce is sort of confused because shouldn't these things be handled by Ambassador Montilyet instead?? Then again... uh. Okay. He can do something about this. Maybe.]
Pel,
I'll see what I can do to aid you in your request. It may be hard to get an actual room even if its with disrepair, since they might be used for other things instead. I'll let you know down the line if your request is successful or not.
Bruce
(PS. If all else fails, I have space in my tent I'm more than willing to share, if you do not mind the company of a human.)
